If you’ve come this far, please don’t leave without help…

While Shield Down is not a crisis intervention resource, we urge you to reach out to one or more of the below resources if you or a loved one are experiencing or potentially experiencing a crisis:

  • Veterans Crisis Line - Dial 988 then Press 1. Text 838255. Chat Online: VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat

No matter your discharge status. No matter when/where/how you served. No matter what you’re experiencing. VCL is there for ALL Veterans. You do NOT have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to connect.

  • Local Emergency Officials - Dial 911 for Police, Fire, EMS support.

Ask to speak with an on-duty veteran, if available. Regardless, your local emergency officials are trained and ready to help you or your loved one if you reach out.

  • Emergency Room - You or your loved one can also get help by going to your nearest emergency room.

  • Go Directly to Your Nearest VA Medical Center - It doesn’t matter what your discharge status is or if you’re enrolled in VA health care. Find your nearest VA medical center here: va.gov/find-locations/?facilityType=health

It’s important to take a crisis or potential crisis serious. We ask that you to let a trained authority and organization handle the situation and if working with trained authorities or organizations, please be open, honest, and maintain a single person as a contact to take lead.

We love you, and we want you to remember that you are worth the fight. Together we fight, together we WILL find hope!
